600 grit is a bit coarse, gets your knife halfway sharp
If you know how to sharpen a knife, get something ~1000 grit for a pocket knife. If you sharpen it regularly that'll be plenty.
For a 600 grit tool this is quite good. It's light, it's well shaped, I like it. It's just not quite what I actually need, and I'm not convinced almost anyone really needs this tool. It seems about right for sharpening garden tools I suppose.
Great as a Gift
I already own two of these (one for the house and one for my wood shop), but I had the bright idea of buying one as a gift to my pedicurist, who has a drawer full of nicked or slightly dull nippers and other exotic sharp instruments that she hadn't gotten around to throwing out. After quickly touching up a couple, she practically fell on my shoulders sobbing, she was so happy.
Works Well, Easy To Use - Highly Recommended!
This Smith Abrasives sharpener is conveniently pocket sized and works very well for sharpening just about anything with a blade. The one I received is slightly different than the one in the "product picture", but it is a better design.
This has a good variety of sharpening edges (see my pictures under "customer images"), including a flat, curved, tapered, and a fishhook groove. The included instructions are printed on the back of the packaging and are adequate for beginners.
This is perfectly sized for keeping in my tackle box!
Highly Recommended!
