Gets the Office Nice and Cool
My office is located in the basement of the house in Wyoming so I really needed something to circulate the air a bit as it is starting to get hot now.
The size of the office is small around 150 sq feet. I set the Vornado in the corner (as recommended in the manual) next to a door going outside. Right now I have it on the lowest of the 4 settings and it has cooled down this room a ton! Huge difference within minutes.
I don't think its that loud at all...in fact the loudness is comparable to the other Vornado fan I own, Vornado 215B Full Size Classic Circulator Adjustable Height Fan.
Yes, it is louder on the highest setting but for my usage I will rarely use it that high...maybe to cool the place down fast.
Remote control is round at about 2 1/2 inches in diameter, 1/2 inch thick. Has 3 buttons: Power, Speed, Timer. I can use it across the room at about 8 feet across with no issues.
The cord is a bit shorter than the other Vornado at about 6...
Better than Ozeri's $130 fan
After buying the Ozeri Ultra fan, I was greatly unimpressed with the unit. Airflow versus sound was good, however the unit made a clicking/whining sound. It whobbled a ton, and overall felt cheap for $130. The packaging was terrible, it just came in a brown box with no real packaging. The fan was new and shipped from Ozeri themselves.
After returning the Ozeri and going through about 4 other tower fans and returning them, I became skeptical. Was there no such thing as a solid tower fan that didnt whobble and feel flimsy? I found out my local Bed, Bath, and Beyond had these in stock. I bought one knowing I could easily return it if I had the same problems as my Ozeri and other fans. However, this is not the case.
This Vornado feels like a $100 fan, it's quality and stability is far above the $130 Ozeri fan. This fan will only slightly whobble if you put pressure on it when pressing the buttons, the Ozeri whobbled from normal oscillation and when you touched the...
Beautiful Design, Poor Mechanics
I've had two Vornados for over 10 years, and have been very happy with them, so I had high hopes for this new tower model. The design is really stunning, and the spiral tower puts out steady air in a wide angle. But sadly, it was immediately evident that the internal quality is no longer there. On the two lower settings, the motor and bearings make a mechanical sound that is very unpleasant. On the lowest setting, which I'd hoped to use for the bedroom, it makes a continuous "NNNNNNNNNNN" sound, like a bearing going bad. At the next higher setting, it is a slightly lower "mmmmmmmm" sound. There are only a few reviews for the new tower Vornado, but the more traditional fans have some negative comments about bearing/motor noise and failing units, and I can see why.
It is obvious that Vornado put a lot of thought into this new design. I wish someone had actually took a fan home and listened to it before they started shipping it out. It sounds more like a cheap...
