Worst design ever
The felt gasket keeps coming apart from the housing. I have an extended warranty on my dryer, but after having this lint filter replaced 3X in 2 years, Sears said it would no longer be a "covered item". No improvement--they keep making the same flawed design while refusing to warranty it! Even special glue designed to tolerate high temperatures does not keep the felt in place. Worthless piece of plastic, screen and felt. If I could buy something else I would, but I'm stuck with it. Wonder if Sears will cover a house fire started by lint igniting?????!!!!!
Solution for the poorly designed product
Screen Dryer Lint Screen Whirlpool Duet Front Load Dryer Lint ScreenI went to Amazon to oder the Whirlpool Lint Screen only to see all negative reviews. People were experiencing the same problem and a new screen was costly for the limited time it worked. I took my filter screen, cleaned of the lint, put Gorilla glue in the channel of the felt that was coming out, pushed the felt back in place, waited over night to let the glue dry (even though it dries quickly) and started using it. A dozen loads and 5 days, it's still working. I'll try to remember to repost if it fails. Gorilla glue is available in most home improvement and hardware stores, probably even at Amazon. Good luck!
Very Poor Construction on Whirlpool Duet Front Load Lint Screens
LOVE the dryer, BUT the filters are junk. The screen tore from the original filter frame (a single screen, flimsy design) and on the replacement filter (more sturdy design with screen divided into 2 sections) the felt came out of the plastic housing within the first 10 loads of laundry. Designers need to go back to the drawing board and I will volunteer to test the next model for durability. Today I'm ordering the 3rd filter in 4 years. I would be willing to pay more for a guaranteed durable, higher quality product.
